Ikke en p\u00e6n render fra et designprogram \u2014 en rigtig hylde med sk\u00e6ve prisskilte, st\u00f8vkanter langs kanten og 400 produkter der alle sammen vil det samme: blive lagt m\u00e6rke til. Forbrugeren der st\u00e5r foran hylden, har ikke t\u00e6nkt sig at bruge lang tid. Hun har tre sekunder. M\u00e5ske to.<\/p>\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Det tal bliver n\u00e6vnt ofte \u2014 tre sekunder \u2014 og det er fristende at affeje som en forenkling. Men det er ikke et arbitr\u00e6rt tal. Det er resultatet af, hvordan hjernen h\u00e5ndterer overflod. N\u00e5r \u00f8jet scanner en hylde, foreg\u00e5r der ikke en rationel sammenligning af ingredienslister og priser. Der foreg\u00e5r en sortering. Hjernen filtrerer. Og det der ikke best\u00e5r filteret, eksisterer ikke.<\/p>\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Emballagedesign til detailhandlen handler i bund og grund om at overleve det filter.<\/p>\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Hvad hjernen ser f\u00f8r du selv ved det<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Forskning i visuel perception har l\u00e6nge vist at hjernen behandler visuel information i to tempi. F\u00f8rst kommer den pr\u00e6attentive fase \u2014 et br\u00f8kdel af et sekund hvor hjernen registrerer kontrast, form og farve uden at du bevidst v\u00e6lger at se p\u00e5 noget bestemt. F\u00f8rst derefter tr\u00e6der den bevidste vurdering ind.<\/p>\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Det betyder at emballagens vigtigste job ikke er at overbevise. Det er at blive valgt til i det f\u00f8rste filter. At blive den ene blandt tyve som \u00f8jet standser ved.<\/p>\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hvad overlever filteret? Tre ting, prim\u00e6rt.<\/p>\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kontrast mod baggrunden. En hylde er typisk lys \u2014 metal, plastik, k\u00f8lig belysning. Emballage der skiller sig ud fra den baggrund, fanger blikket hurtigere end emballage der matcher den. Det er ikke raketvidenskab, men det overrasker stadig hvor mange brands der v\u00e6lger emballage som blender ind i stedet for at skille sig ud.<\/p>\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Silhuet. Hjernen registrerer form f\u00f8r den registrerer tekst eller grafik. En emballage med en markant, afvigende profil \u2014 h\u00f8jere, smallere, med en vinkel eller en \u00e5bning der bryder r\u00e6kken \u2014 f\u00e5r opm\u00e6rksomhed f\u00f8r en firkantet \u00e6ske med et flot logo.<\/p>\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Farve som genkendelsessignal. Ikke farve som pynt, men farve som genvej. Hvis et brand har en konsistent farveidentitet, bliver den farve til et pr\u00e6attentivt signal. T\u00e6nk p\u00e5 den gule Marabou-indpakning eller r\u00f8den p\u00e5 en Coca-Cola-d\u00e5se. Du beh\u00f8ver ikke at l\u00e6se noget. Marketingafdelingen vil have en produktfordel kommunikeret. Salgsafdelingen vil have en pris eller en kampagne med. Designafdelingen vil have et visuelt koncept der ser smukt ud p\u00e5 en sk\u00e6rm. Og resultatet er emballage der kommunikerer fem ting p\u00e5 \u00e9n gang \u2014 og derfor kommunikerer ingenting effektivt.<\/p>\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">De tre sekunder p\u00e5 hylden er ikke tid til en fort\u00e6lling. Det er tid til et signal. \u00c9t signal. Det der g\u00f8r at hjernen siger: &#8220;Den her.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Det kr\u00e6ver mod at prioritere. At sige: vores emballage skal ikke fort\u00e6lle hele vores brandhistorie. Den skal g\u00f8re \u00e9n ting \u2014 f\u00e5 h\u00e5nden til at r\u00e6kke ud. Resten kan ske derhjemme.<\/p>\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Design p\u00e5 sk\u00e6rm versus virkelighed p\u00e5 hylde<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Der er en systematisk afstand mellem hvordan emballage bliver til, og hvor den skal fungere. Emballage designes p\u00e5 en 27-tommer sk\u00e6rm i et lokale med j\u00e6vnt lys. Den bed\u00f8mmes i en pr\u00e6sentation hvor alle sidder to meter fra en projektor. Og den skal derefter performe p\u00e5 en hylde med 400 konkurrenter, under lysstofr\u00f8r, i armsl\u00e6ngde, i tre sekunder.<\/p>\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Den afstand er \u00e5rsagen til at emballage der ser &#8220;rigtig ud&#8221; i en designpr\u00e6sentation, kan forsvinde fuldst\u00e6ndig i butikken. Farver der er subtile p\u00e5 sk\u00e6rm, bliver gr\u00e5 i k\u00f8lig butiksbelysning. Typografi der er elegant i A3-format, er ul\u00e6selig p\u00e5 15 centimeter. Et design der str\u00e5ler i isolation, drukner i sammenh\u00e6ng.<\/p>\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Derfor er den vigtigste test af emballagedesign ikke om det ser godt ud p\u00e5 en sk\u00e6rm. Det er om det overlever hylden. En mockup placeret blandt rigtige konkurrenter, under realistiske forhold, afsl\u00f8rer mere p\u00e5 ti minutter end en uges interne revisioner.<\/p>\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">De tre sekunder er ikke et problem \u2014 de er en mulighed<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Det er fristende at se de tre sekunder som en begr\u00e6nsning. Som om detailhandlen er et fjendtligt milj\u00f8 der straffer brands med for lidt opm\u00e6rksomhed.<\/p>\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Men det er den forkerte ramme. De tre sekunder er ikke en begr\u00e6nsning. De er den faktiske virkelighed. Og den virkelighed favoriserer brands der forst\u00e5r den \u2014 og straffer dem der designer for bestyrelseslokalet i stedet for for hylden.<\/p>\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Den emballage der vinder, er ikke den med det flotteste design.
